THROWBACK...BLOG ABOUT RIHANNA FROM NOVEMBER 09

Everyone has their opinions on Rihanna, whether it is she is foolish for still associating with her attacker Chris Brown or she is amazing, musically and stylishly speaking. As a woman of color, Rihanna has to set an example for young African American women. Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty was born on February 20, 1988 and raised in St. Michael Barbados, an Eastern Caribbean island. People fail to realize that she was inducted into a military school where she was an army cadet. She was a tom-boy. Her two younger brothers and she had to cope with their father’s cocaine and crack usage and their parent’s rough marital battles, which lead to a divorce when Rihanna was 14. I think it is ok to say that she had a rough childhood. Yet, there was always the beauty, talent, and unique quality that were waiting to emerge. In 2003 she was introduced to music mogul Jay-Z, in which she was signed to Def Jam records.  Since then, she has superfluously excelled in music. From Pon De Replay, Unfaithful, and Umbrella to darker songs such as Disturbia, Shut Up and Drive, and Run this Town, Rihanna has blew the musical scene away.  She has had 5 number one hits, the most by any female of this century: SOS, Disturbia, Live Your Life, Umbrella, and Take a Bow. Her most recent releases are “Russian Roulette,” “Hard” featuring Young Jeezy, “Wait Your Turn.”  She is making an extremely strong come back.  In February 2009 singer Chris Brown and she was in a physical altercation resulting in her being extremely bruised and injured. Brown, seemingly remorseful, has apologized publicly, which in my opinion is just for publicity. The only person he should apologize to is Fenty and her family. End of that story. Rihanna has remained strong, musically and gained strength as a fashion power house. Her style has evolved along with her hair. As a tomboy in her younger days, she is now showing her girly yet edgy side with the long rounded clawed fingernails, skimpy skirts, and sexy corsets. Rihanna, in my eyes, is on her way to an iconic image by being unique in all aspects.
